Dr Brendan O’Shea (Colonel Retired, Irish Defence Forces - Army) is the European Officer of The Western Front Association.  

During a career spanning 40 years he worked extensively with the UN, EU, OSCE and NATO and has seen deployments to Israel, Lebanon, Georgia, Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Liberia and SHAPE (Belgium). 

A published author, his multiple works have focused on recent conflicts in the Balkans and the Middle East, and the exploits of the Irish Divisions in the Great War. His significant research publication with Gerry White, A Great Sacrifice - Cork Servicemen who Died in the Great War, identified over 4000 soldiers from Cork City and County who perished in the conflict. 

Dr O’Shea is also the WFA’s Irish Education Officer and coordinates the Schools Initiative pilot project. He also engages with 3rd level institutions in Ireland in order to promote the objectives of  the WFA and perpetuate the memory of all who fought and died in the Great War.
