Simon recently retired after a 40 year career in IT, working for major Insurance companies and IT Consultancies.

His interest in the Great War started aged about 13 when he made a landscape model of some trenches, which he donated to his school's history department. This interest remained largely dormant for many years but returned with a vengeance about 15 years ago when he started reading the personal accounts on men who'd served.

He has helped family members and friends trace their WW1 relatives and has made several trips to the Western Front, usually walking the battlefields alone, using trench maps as his guide. He now has so many books on WW1 that his wife insists that he operates a policy of 'one in, one out'.

Simon lives in Lancashire and attends  The Lancashire North branch of The WFA. Ten years ago, he received an honours degree in Traditional Acupuncture.
