Harry Murray was descended from convicts and his family were early settlers of Tasmania. When the war began he was in Western Australia cutting timber and joined the 16th Battalion AIF as a private, later serving at Gallipoli, Pozieres, Mouquet Farm, Gueudecourt, Bullecourt, Ypres and other battles of 1918.
