Mavis Sellers – Nurse Nellie Spindler

Mavis is the founder of the West Riding branch of the WFA and travelled down in December with Chris Page for his talk on Mannock. She tells us “I first became interested in WWI many years ago after a battlefield trip with my son. I met Gordon Ray, USA branch secretary on a Poets tour in 2002 and joined the WFA we have corresponded ever since, and he bet me I couldn’t start a new branch in Yorkshire. Never have a bet with a determined lady! Our branch has being going for seven years. I first heard of Nellie Spindler from a newspaper cutting from Wakefield. I decided it would, with additions, make an interesting talk and so it proved as I was fortunate to meet some of Nellie's descendants, and find from diaries information the family didn't know.”
