Soldiers of God – Army Chaplains of the Western Front.

national life in the early twentieth century and how the actions of British Army Chaplains reflected what they found among the soldiers. I discuss difficulties in reconciling going to war with the third commandment, 'Thou shalt not kill' and Christ's teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. I also cover the role of 300 clergy who enlisted as fighting soldiers or in the RAMC and chaplains' hope for a Christian renewal following the war.
