‘Nobody’s Heroes – 8th East Lancs in the Great War’ by Stephen Barker

Stephen will be giving a talk is about a Lancashire battalion and the presentation gives an impression of life in and out of the trenches for any Service Battalion of the First World War, irrespective of their origins. Fully illustrated, it tells of the war from the soldier's perspective, making use of documentary evidence including letters, sound archives, artefacts and poetry.

Stephen Barker is a manager at Banbury Museum, an active member of the Western Front Association, and has written for Stand To and Battlefields Review. An ex-headmaster, he lives in Buckingham. Christopher Boardman is an amateur historian from Leigh in Lancashire. His grandfather fought with the 8th East Lancashires and he has spent many years studying the regiment.

The talk includes unusual perspectives of the war, highlights the experience of battle and makes links to the wider war. Stephen will be selling copies of his book priced at £14.
