This talk will cover the role of the tank on the Battle of Cambrai, the first British combined arms battle (20-27 Nov 1917) and the German dress rehearsal for their 1918 offensives (30 Nov to 02 Dec). It will show how this role was developed from the first battle at Flers-Courcelette through the Battles of Arras (April 1917) and Bullecourt ( April-May 1917) and Third Ypres ( Jul-Nov 1917) and eventual victory in 1918 and the problem of exploitation.
Geoffrey was commissioned into the Royal Tank Regiment in 1974 and served in Germany in Chieftain tank squadrons. He then served as a staff officer on a number of new weapon acquisition programmes including the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank. Since retiring in 2010 he has worked on the preparations for the RTR's commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the First World War,
