We Clapped Our Hands With The Rest of the World, Welcoming The signs of Peace - Rebecca Ball
02 Aug

This talk examines Working-Class urban childhoods in England during the Great War. It does this by analysing the autobiographical recollections of nine individuals who were children during the First World War (three living in Manchester, three living in Birmingham and three living in London). These children did not have their father, absent in active service and so their recollections are not centred around the serviceman rhetoric but rather focus on other aspects of the conflict
