After our monthly meeting, some of our members have refreshments at the Shrewsbury Arms, Oxton. We discovered that part of the pub used to be a private house and at the time of the Great War was occupied by 52005 Private Robin Carlyle Morland M.M and his family. Private Morland was killed in action on 1 September 1918 and is buried in St Martin Calvaire British Cemetery. We carried out some research on him and visited his grave on our branch battlefield tour in April 2022 and laid a wreath on behalf of the staff and manager of the Shrewsbury Arms. We later presented a framed display of photos to the pub which now hangs in the bar.
