Jane Conway is the author of the acclaimed biography about the life of Mary Borden.
Mary was an American socialite who used her own considerable wealth to create a French field hospital in which she herself served as a nurse. In her fascinating life she graduated from Vassar College with a BA in 1907. Later, on a tour of the Far East, she met and married Scottish missionary George Douglas Turner.
In 1913 she and Turner moved to England where Borden was active in the Suffragette movement being arrested during a demonstration in Parliament Square for throwing a stone through the window of Her Majesty's Treasury for which she spent five days in police cell.
Members of the Western Front Association and non-members are equally welcome to attend. We ask for a modest £3 donation on the door to assist in covering room charges and speaker expenses. The Club's licensed bar is available for use by all attending our meetings.
Any new visitors will be assured of a welcoming and friendly atmosphere among a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
