Sir Max Hastings has described Gary as “One of Britain’s foremost historians of the First World War, insightful, original, and superbly informed’ so I’m delighted that he has agreed to come and talk to the branch.
Currently professor of war studies at Wolverhampton University, his academic career started in the Dept of War Studies, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst working alongside colleagues such as Richard Holmes, John Keegan and many others.
This talk, which focuses on the lasting legacy of WW1, will cover such key events as the Treaty of Versailles and other peace treaties of 1919-23.
Members of the Western Front Association and non-members are equally welcome to attend. We ask for a modest £3 donation on the door to assist in covering room charges and speaker expenses. The Club's licensed bar is available for use by all attending our meetings.
Any new visitors will be assured of a welcoming and friendly atmosphere among a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
