As his rank suggests, Otto was a ‘one year volunteer' who enlisted in July 1914. A student in his civilian life, he was born at Bregenz, Austria on 4 June 1891 and he was a participant in the earliest battles against the Russian Army in August and September 1914. He was killed in action in Galicia on 4 October 1914 and has no recorded grave.
