The forthcoming Great War Centenary promises to be an exciting time for Conferences.
In the run up to the Centenary the WFA have two major Conferences in 2013. The President's Second Conference at the Tally Ho Club in Birmingham will have the theme "1913: Prelude to War" and will look at what kind of war was expected and how ready Britain was for a major war. This will take place on 5 October 2013.
On 2 November 2013 the WFA will be running a Conference in collaboration with the National Army Museum on "The War Underground". This will explore the mechanics on tunnelling and tell the story of the men who worked and fought in the tunnellers war.Details are being finalised and will be announced shortly.
Negotiations are taking place on a variety of Conferences for the Centenary. The President's Conferences at the Tally Ho Club will continue each year. The WFA is working with the Gallipoli Association to plan a residential Conference on "Gallipoli and the Western Front" to show the links between the two theatres of war. A One Day Conference is being planned in association with the Imperial War Museum on the theme of "The Indian Army on the Western Front". Both of these will take place in 2015.
Many Branches are planning regional Seminars for the Centenary. The Suffolk Branch has already planned a series for the whole Centenary. The Somerset Branch intend to follow up their recent successful Somme Seminar; Durham Branch will be having a Seminar in September 2014; and Milton Keynes and Cumbria Branches will be continuing their annual events.
There are bound to be many more events and we will endeavour to avoid clashes of dates in any region. Details of all events will be published in the Bulletin and on the Website.
