The Western Front Association Annual Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph 2010 - official photographs

2010 cenotaph order of serviceWFA member Roy Backhouse kindly agreed to act as the WFA's official photographer on 11 November 2010 at the WFA's Annual Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph.

I am sure you will agree he has produced some splendid images to help us remember the day and all that it meant to everyone who was there at the Cenotaph and at the subsequent service held at the Guards' Chapel thereafter.

The images also include photographs from the WFA's post-Service lunch, held each year at Peelers at New Scotland Yard. You'll see the WFA's Chairman, Bruce Simpson, giving his thanks to four stalwarts who have been long involved in the organisation of the Service and the events of the day. They are:

  • Les Carter
  • Maurice Johnson
  • Tom Miles
  • Stuart Bufton

Each was awarded a Certificate of Honorary Membership of the Association in recognition of their contribution to the WFA over many years.

The WFA's President, Correlli Barnett, also added his appreciation of their work on this significant day of days for The Western Front Association.

You can see a slide show below of the images Roy has kindly provided. Please use the expand icon to view them full screen (press Esc to exit and return).

Site news

The WFA's site is undergoing a major rebuilding programme at the moment. We are moving to a new, faster server, with a new version of the content management system that has powered the site successfully since 2008. We will introduce a slightly different look and feel to that currently.
You may spot the phrase "Warning: Illegal string offset 'active' in .... " on parts of the website. Do not be alarmed! These are simply alerts but they do not constitute a danger to you or your computer. They are the result of a recent (current) server software upgrade that means there is a minor issue when listings are generated.
The website content (and, for the most part, its structure) will be unchanged and is indeed being expanded and improved. Search will be much more able to find the material you want in a site of almost 4,000 articles, and we will make other improvements such as content tagging.
We hope the work will be complete by December 2014.
