A farmer from Liberty Township, Grant County, William was born on 20 May 1888. He enlisted into the US Army on 10 December 1917 and, after training at Fort Thomas, Kentucky, he was transferred to the CAC at San Francisco, California. Walter died of heart failure at Presidio, California on 7 July 1918 and is buried in Marion, Indiana.
