From Pouilly-sous-Charlieu, Louis was born on 6 May 1882. He saw his compulsory military service with the 61 RI and, as a recalled reservist in August 1914, he was incorporated as an adjutant in the 98 RI. Louis soon saw action in the Battle of Sarrebourg and the Vosges. Wounded in action near Ban de Sapt, Vosges, he died in a dressing station near Epinal on 12 September 1914. Louis' remains were returned home for burial post-war.
