1568 Adj Jean Claude Darcon, 159e RI.
A regular pre-war soldier, Jean was born at Renaison, Loire on 6 August 1884. At the time of the outbreak of war he was stationed in barracks at Briançon and served in Alsace and the Vosges from the earliest days of the war. In October, Jean was a combatant in the Battle of Artois, when he was severely wounded in action. He died of his wounds, in Auxiliary Hospital Nr 20 at Abbeville, Somme, on 27 October 1914. Jean's body was returned to his home town for burial. His younger brother, Francisque, would also die of wounds received whilst serving with the 171st Infantry Regiment near St Mihiel just 16 days later.
