Special Commemorative Activities, July 1st, 2020

This is an invitation from the Lochnagar Crater Foundation to join them on July 1st for a unique international commemoration to foster Remembrance, Peace and Reconciliation

For over four decades, at 07.28 on July 1st each year, the Lochnagar Crater Foundation have gathered at the Lochnagar Crater on the Somme to honour the men and women of all nations who fell during the First World War.

In this exceptional year, being unable to have their usual gathering, they have prepared a short film (7mins 28secs long) to share our ongoing commitment to Remembrance, Peace and Reconciliation. It will be available to view at www.lochnagarcrater.org from 0728hrs (BST) on Wednesday July 1st.

The Lochnagar Crater Foundation are encouraging everyone, on that day and at a place of their choosing, to record and post their own personal act of remembrance to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and any social media platforms using #Somme2020.

We are also inviting them to read and share, as we do in the film, ‘The Lochnagar Promise to the Fallen’.

‘I promise to honour all those who fell, and to strive each day, to make the world around us,

a place of more compassion and kindness; respect and tolerance; forgiveness and reconciliation. Let us now, in their honour, wage peace.’

Subject to technical conditions, the Lochnagar Crater Foundation will also be broadcasting a brief symbolic wreath-laying, direct from the Lochnagar Crater via Facebook Live-stream, at 07.28 French time (06.28 BST) on the morning of July 1st.
