Welcome to The Western Front Association: remembering the First World War of 1914-18
On 11 November 2012 all members of the WFA celebrated our thirty-second anniversary. During these thirty-two years, the WFA has a proud record of remembering The First World War and those of all nations who fought and those who died in the years 1914-18. As we enter our thirty-second year, did you know, for example:
- the WFA publishes two excellent journals: Stand To! and the Bulletin?
- the WFA organises the Annual Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph on 11 November*?
- the WFA was instrumental in restoring the "Two Minutes Silence" at 11 am on 11 November each year?
- the WFA preserved the First World War Medal Index Cards from destruction?
- the WFA has announced (November 2012) that it has preserved 6.5 million Great War records of servicemen and women form the period?
- the WFA has 6,000 members in branches and affiliated organisations throughout the world?
- the WFA has digitised the First World War maps in collaboration with the Imperial War Museum and made them available on DVDs?
- the WFA's London Branch commemorates each year the arrival of The Unknown Warrior at Victoria Station on 10 November 1920?
- the WFA's Yorkshire Branch awards a prize each year for the best MA dissertation from the Centre for First World War Studies?
These are just some examples of the work of our Association.
Applications for membership are warmly welcomed from anyone with an interest in the Great War.
