'The 29th Division: Gallipoli to the Somme 1915-1917' by Dave Griffiths
02 Feb

This talk will look at the battlefield experience between 1915 and 1917 of one of the most famous divisions in the British Army during the Great War: the ‘Incomparable’ 29th Division. It spearheaded the Gallipoli landings in April 1915 and on 1 July 1916 assaulted  Hawthorn Ridge and sacrificed the Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont-Hamel. We will begin with the division’s preparations for Gallipoli and finish with its contribution to the winter fighting on the Somme in early 1917 as we consider how justified the 29th’s reputation really was.
