'Nobody of Any Importance. A Footsoldier's Memoir of WW1' - Sam Sutcliffe: A talk by Philip Sutcliffe
08 Nov

We welcome Phil Sutcliffe to our Hatfield Peverel venue on November the 8th, to present his father's wartime story. Phil edited and published his father's memoires and tells his story of underage enlistment in the London Regiment, Gallipoli, The Somme, The German Offensive in 1918 and time as a POW. At Gallipoli he served for a period alongside a machine gun detachment from the Essex Regiment, he was sent to the 7th Essex for home service after the Somme, and rejoined the Western Front with the 2nd Essex in which he served until his capture and repatriation.

This is an amazing story and in giving the details above I have not given away any of its content. Proceeds from the book go to the Red Cross.

The meeting will have an 8pm start. We meet in the Bar area of the village hall, with access to the bar. There is onsite parking. We ask for an entrance donation of £3.50 and there is an optional raffle.

As with all of our meetings those attending do not have to be members of the WFA.
