Seven Years in the Making: One Day in the Destroying, by Sean Godfrey
17 Mar

After the failure of British attacks at Neuve Chapelle and the French in Champagne, the Germans attacked at the Second Battle of Ypres on 22 April. By this time the battalions of the Durham Light Infantry regiment had just landed in France with the 50th (Northumbrian) Division. This talk looks at the actions of 8th Battalion on the 25th and 26th April 1915, during the Second Battle of Ypres, when after only six days in France they were put into battle to 'hold the line', and in 24 hours suffered nearly 600 casualties.

Our speaker, Sean Godfrey, is a historian and chairman of the Cleveland Branch of the Western Front Association.
