Seminar series: Women and the First World War
Annick Vandenbilcke and Piet Chielens, In Flanders Fields Museum.
‘A woman’s narrative in the collections and exhibitions of the In Flanders Fields Museum’
The public entrusted the In Flanders Fields Museum since its opening in 1998 with numerous objects and documents. Personal collections are a large part of these donations. The intense bond with the donors before, during and after the handover, contributes to the preservation and disclosure of the stories handed down to future generations. Quite a number of these witness accounts are written or assembled by women and they provide fascinating insights into the experience of the First World War.
