2265 Pte Samuel Quinn, 1/5th East Lancashire Regiment
From Burnley, Lancashire where he was still resident (Anne Street) at the time of his enlistment, Samuel (who possibly actually served under an alias: there is a possibility that his true family name is O'Donnell) was born in 1894. After enlisting into his local territorial battalion in the early days of the war, he landed at Gallipoli in May 1915 and fought in two of the Battles of Krithia.
Wounded in August 1915, Samuel died at sea whilst on board a hospital ship evacuating him from the peninsular on 14 August 1915. Buried at sea, he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial,Turkey.
