Dr Daithí Ó Corráin and Dr Gerard Hanley talk about their recent book on Irish revolutionary and republican leader Cathal Brugha.

Cathal Burgha, An Indomitable Spirit explores his life as a member of the Gaelic League, Irish Republican Brotherhood, Irish Volunteers, Sinn Fein MP and minister. Burgha became an opponent of the 1921 Anglo Irish Treaty and died in the Irish Civil War of 1922/3. Daithí and Gerard consider Burgha’s impact on the struggle for Irish independence.

Daithí is a lecturer in history in the School of History & Geography and is chair of the MA in History Programme Board at Dublin City University in the Republic of Ireland. Gerard is a Research Fellow also at Dublin City University. Their book is published by Four Courts Press.
