For Whom The Bell Tolls’ - The Men of the Great War Memorial in St Anne’s Church, Shandon, Cork, by Fiona Forde

Saint Anne’s Church in Shandon, Cork, is famous for its set of church bells and is visited by large numbers of tourists each year. In addition to getting an opportunity to ring is bells, visitors to the church will be able to view its Great War Memorial. This stands as a poignant tribute to nineteen brave men from the parish who gave their lives in the pursuit of freedom. This presentation tells the story of their lives and legacies, highlighting their contributions and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Fiona Forde is a genealogist and member of the Cork Branch of the WFA who has a keen interest in the Great War. Among he projects is a study of the lives times of the men from Co. Cork who fought in the war.
