The Bulfin Family from Co. Offaly, Ireland, by Gerry O'Meara
26 Apr

General Sir Edward Bulfin served in France, Salonika and the Middle East during the Great War and was the subject of a recent biography by John Powell. His father, Patrick, was a son of Edward Bulfin from Derrinlough, King's County (now County Offaly) and was elected Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1870. However, these were not the only prominent members of this family. Another, Eamon Bulfin, was a member of the Irish Volunteers who raised a flag over the General Post office in Dublin at the start of the 1916 Rising in Dublin. This presentation looks at these and other members of the Bulfin family  -  a family who had to cope with divided loyalties during the Great War.
