About the talk: This talk introduces the many either who went to war gifted naturalists or else found solace in the natural world from the daily horrors they faced. This talk goes on to explore how people dealt with the less-calming aspects of the natural world such as rats, flies and lice! It also examines how Mother Nature herself wrought miracles in the aftermath to repopulate, to repair and to heal the ravaged world.

About the speaker: Anne Pedley is a retired literature lecturer who has had a life-long interest in the Great War, especially through the prism of the letters, memoirs, and journals of the day but also through contemporary photographs. A trustee of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, and an enthusiastic social historian, she specialises in the literature of the conflict and the varying ways in which the war affected different groups of people.
