Sergeant Vincent Percy Bayne of the 2/5th London Regiment lost his life on the 6th November 1917, during the Second battle of Passchendaele (part of Third Ypres), at the age of nineteen. He is one of more than 2,200 fatalities to be found amongst the nineteen thousand local men recorded as serving in the Great War, on the Walthamstow Roll of Honour. By chance, he left a larger 'footprint' than most, and this has allowed Chris Hunt to tell his story, and set it in the context of the community he lived in.
Chris has spent the last decade immersing himself in the history of Walthamstow residents' service in the First World War, writing several related articles, giving talks and leading cemetery walks based on his research.
