ANZAC DRUMHEAD REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

During the First World War there was a large military camp at Cannock Chase which became the base for the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. There was also a prisoner-of-war hospital and both the camp and the hospital used the burial ground that is now the Cannock Chase War Cemetery.

The cemetery contains 93 Commonwealth war graves of which 73 were from the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. The ‘Dinks’ as they became known were much loved and admired by the people of Stafford and surrounding communities and since their departure from the camp an annual ANZAC Remembrance Service has been held.

Following The Staffs (North) & Cheshire (South) WFA Branch's  first attendance in 2024 we will again be represented at the above annual service.

The Ceremony is organised by the Royal British Legion and it is a privilege for the branch to attend and lay a wreath on behalf of the WFA. All branch members and the public are most welcome to attend the event.

A report of our Branch's attendance in 2024 appeared in the August 2024 WFA Bulletin (page 36).
