The U-Boat Campaign 1914-18 - The Inside Story by Graham Kemp

The German U-Boat was regarded as the deadliest naval weapon in the Great War. Graham's talk will examine how far this was true. It begins by looking at the U-boats themselves, seeing them as underwater boats rather than as true submarines. Then how they were used, first as naval weapon, and then as a commerce raider. The talk will assess how far they were a real threat to the Allies.  Could they have won the war? Finally the talk will look at what it was like to serve in the U-Boats during the Great War with some stories about the experiences of the crews.

This is a rare opportunity to hear Graham speak as he is based in Liverpool and we have had to make special arrangements for his visit to deliver what will undoubtably be an excellent presentation by an authority on the topic

This meeting will be held in Cobham.  Members of The Western Front Association and non-members are equally welcome.  We ask for a modest £5 donation on the door.  This includes tea, coffee and biscuits at the break (before the Q&A session with the speaker). It also includes free tickets for the book raffle.

People joining us at Cobham can use our cashless card system and use their credit card/phone with the reader that will be available at the signing-in desk.

To help make things easier and safer, we are asking those coming to Cobham to bring their own mug for coffee or tea.

Graham’s talk will start at 8pm.  Doors open at Cobham at 7:15pm and the meeting starts at 7:45pm.
