The Fog of Naval War by Scott Lindgren
19 May

The Battle of Jutland, 31 May - 1 June 1916 was the only occasion in the Great War that the two opposing battlefleets would meet in action. A succession of interlinked engagements rather than a single continuous fight, Jutland has become one of the most debated and contentious fleet actions in naval history, with debates continuing to rage over strategy, fleet tactics, communications, material and the individual performance of senior commanders, with countless acts of extreme bravery shown on both sides. In this talk, we will examine the general course of the battle, and some of the controversies surrounding it.

After 15 years of working in the higher education sector as a researcher and lecturer / tutor in naval and maritime history, Dr Scott Lindgren now divides his time as a freelance researcher & speaker on naval / maritime history, as an international consultant in both (historical) game design and audio / loudspeaker design.

The meeting will take place at our usual venue, The Allotment Social Club, West Allotments, and will commence at 7.45 pm for an 8.00 pm start.

Please note: Entrance to the meeting is by donation of £5, there will be a raffle, and we no longer provide a buffet.
