U-Boote Heraus! The Life Cut Short of ‘Worth’ Wilson by Deryck Collins
16 Jun

Deryk talks about Worth, another brother of the Wilson family to Bob, who he spoke about last year - Bob was ship's engineer on the undercover spy ship Sayonara.

Samuel Worthington Wilson – was known in the family as Worth. He was in the Sea Scouts in Sunderland when war broke out - the Boy Scout movement began in Sunderland in 1908. Worth joined in with coast watching, guarding railway bridges, tunnels and junctions as well as carrying messages, before he became a Merchant Navy Apprentice aged 16. Sadly, his ship was fatally torpedoed in 1917, on the return leg of his first trans-Atlantic voyage.

The meeting will take place at our usual venue, The Allotment Social Club, West Allotments, and will commence at 7.45 pm for an 8.00 pm start.
