127th (Manchester) Brigade at the Third Battle of Krithia - Paul Knight
25 Feb

After the Third Battle of Krithia, Hamilton wrote to Major General William Douglas commanding 42nd Division, saying "As a matter of fact I never saw any finer piece of work than that performed by the Manchesters that day." By the end of the day, the Allied front line was advanced about 250 yards at great cost. However, the Manchester Brigade broke through the Turkish lines and opened the way to Achi Baba.

Paul Knight is a Major in the Army Reserve (formerly the Territorial Army) and has an interest in the role of the Territorials in the First World War, especially those from Lancashire. He is currently serving in Historical Analysis at the Land Warfare Centre where relevant historical examples are used to support the modern Army's activities. Paul holds a PhD in History, is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and the author of several military history books. He has a long term interest in the First World War in the Middle East, and would like to get out to Gallipoli more often than time and money permits.
