Over the weekend of the 24th to 26th May 2024, the Passchendaele Museum 1917 in partnership with the University of Canterbury and the University of the Arts London, will be organising ‘De Weg Terug – The Way Back’ theatre walks around the Zonnebeke Castle grounds which will examine the pilgrimages of the thousands of grieving family members who visited the battlefields after the Great War to search for the graves of their loved ones.
Using a combination of ‘projections, video mapping, music and spoken word, their aim is to bring the Zonnebeke of 1920 back to life’.
Theatre walks will be held from 6pm on all three days and last for about 40 minutes. On Friday and Saturday, there will be extra, free performances at 9.45 PM with video mapping projected onto the castle building.
This event is supported by The Western Front Association and tickets should be available soon at €13 per person (Free entrance for children up to 6 years old) through the following link - Passchendaele Museum - The Way Back Event
Over the same weekend, the Museum will also be holding Archaeology Days which are free and will offer a number of demonstrations, re-enactments and workshops that will explore archaeology of First World War sites.
