ONLINE: From Putney Bridge to Jallianwala Bagh: The 1/25th County of London Cyclists 1914-1919
11 Nov

The presentation will be live and online.

The 1/25th were on coastal defence in Suffolk for 2 years, witnessed two Zeppelin raids on Lowestoft.

Moving to India the cyclists, fought in Waziristan in 1917 and then were present in Amritsar for the Massacre and played a small part in Third Anglo-Afghan War.

This is a fascinating story told by Dr Adam Prime about an obscure unit starting at Rye on annual camp when war broke out, through mobilisation to two interesting and very distinct experiences.

One of the battalion's first men to die in Waziristan was Herbert Gayler, an Olympic silver medalist from Stockholm 1912.
