This talk is targeted at our Australian friends (Western Australian time 1900hrs), although anyone is welcome, from whatever part of the globe.

Chris John and Jonanthan Dale of the Birmingham branch of the Western Front Association will give a brief history of commemoration in the UK and the west Midlands. This will include the background to Remembrance Day, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Royal British Legion. Reference will be made to Australians with a West Midland connection.

Wednesday 13th November at 1900hrs UK time

This is targeted at the UK audience. Our Australian speaker will be presenting at 0200 on 14/11. Night owls from around the globe will be most welcome to join in.

Anne Chapple of the Friends of ANZAC Cottage will give a brief history of commemoration in Western Australia. She will talk about Australia's approach, given only two of their casualties in WWI were buried in Australia and the resulting pilgrimages that followed. She will summarise the "ANZAC" phenomenon post World War I with many buildings, streets, towns and people being named ANZAC, the original war memorials and finish by describing some modern Australian memorials.

Each talk will last approximately one hour including time for questions.
