The first official trailer for The Choral has been released, offering a poignant glimpse into a community finding solace in music amidst the turmoil of the First World War. Set in 1916 in the fictional Yorkshire town of Ramsden, the film arrives in UK cinemas on 7 November 2025.

The story centres on the local Choral Society, which faces a significant challenge as most of its male members have enlisted to fight on the Western Front. Determined to continue, the society's ambitious committee decides to recruit teenage boys and girls from the community to fill their depleted ranks.

Their search for a new chorus master leads them to the driven and uncompromising Dr. Henry Guthrie, portrayed by the acclaimed Ralph Fiennes. Guthrie's recent return from a career in Germany raises suspicions among the townspeople, adding a layer of intrigue to the narrative.

As the shadow of conscription looms over the newly recruited young men, the entire community discovers that coming together in song is their most powerful response to the chaos and grief that the war has brought to their lives.

The Choral marks the fourth collaboration between two giants of British stage and screen: director Nicholas Hytner and writer Alan Bennett. Their previous celebrated projects include The Madness of King George, The History Boys, and The Lady in the Van. Unlike their prior work, The Choral is an original screenplay penned by Bennett, his first in four decades.

In an interview, Hytner noted that the film captures the characteristic wit and emotional depth of Bennett's writing, highlighting the ‘ambiguities and the griefs of the old’ alongside the vibrant ‘energy of the young.’

Joining Fiennes is a stellar ensemble of British talent, including Roger Allam, Mark Addy, Alun Armstrong, Robert Emms, and Simon Russell Beale. The film is produced by a team that includes Kevin Loader and Damian Jones, with a score composed by George Fenton.

Filming commenced in May 2024 across Yorkshire, with the historic village of Saltaire being transformed to recreate the 1916 setting. The Choral is set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 before its nationwide UK release.
