Dr Attwood's talk begins with looking at five British 'heroes' on the Western Front and elsewhere on the morning of 11 November, 1918; examines briefly the failure of early offensive plans; German mistakes and the entry of the United States; how the stalemate was finally broken in 1918; and analyses factors in the Allied victory including 'The Hundred Days'. The talk looks ahead to why the peace failed and finishes by returning to the five 'heroes' and a sixth one who joins the story in March, 1918
