Keeping open the highway to India: The Defence of the Suez Canal 1915 by Dr Adam Prime
05 Apr

The purpose of this talk is to give an account of not just the Suez canal's place in British strategy and the battle itself but also of the soldiers' experiences in Egypt. For the Territorials from East Lancashire this was their first time abroad. For the Indian regulars this was their first active service outside of India, Afghanistan or Burma, and the first time they would face a regular army, organised in a manner similar to themselves. Yet this hastily organised defence was successful.
