'A Profound Learning: Four Giants on the Western Front 1914-1918' a talk by William Franklin

The four giants in question are Field Marshals Archibald Wavell, Alan Brooke, Bernard Montgomery and Harold Alexander. The talk will include a brief overview of their experience as young officers in the Great War on the Western Front and how that impacted on their future careers.

William Franklin was Head of Politics, Citizenship and a teacher of History at Parkstone Grammar School in Poole, Dorset for many years until retiring to London in 2013. While at the school, he co-led many trips to the Western Front. William has an MA in Military History from the University of Buckingham London Research Programme.
