The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ was a short story by James Thurber about a very ordinary person who in his daydreams has the most amazing fantasies. Marietta Crichton Stuart’s grandfather was killed in the First World war whilst commanding the Welch Regiment.

While researching his history she came across the character of Percy Shuttlewood, who served in her grandfather’s battalion during the Great War. Percy was a lieutenant in the 6th Battalion of the Welsh regiment, and this talk is about his life and adventures. Why does she describe him as the ‘Welsh Walter Mitty’? Come along and find out!
