Following on from his excellent talk last September, Phil returns to the Branch to examine General Sir Horace Smith Dorrien's defence of his actions and why he decided to stand and fight at Le Cateau during the retreat from Mons. It is not an evaluation of the battle itself but of Smith Dorrien's reasoning and his justification for ignoring the direction of Field Marshal French.
