A Nuclear Scientist’s War: The experience of Alexander Smith Russell by Terry Dean

This talk tells the story of Alexander Smith Russell who pre-WW1 carried out research work in Radioactivity and was a Lecturer in Physical Chemistry.  He served with the Royal Garrison Artillery from January 1915, seeing action at Loos. In February 1916 he was selected to join the first Sound Ranging course under Willie Bragg and two months later was commanding a Sound Ranging Section.
