Thiepval Memorial Commemoration - 1st July 2024
01 Jul

At 10.30am on the 1st of July 2024, there will be a commemoration service at the Thiepval Memorial to mark the 108th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Etched on the walls of this iconic monument, cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, are the names of 72,000 British and South African soldiers who fought and died in the area, but have no known grave.

Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the memorial was unveiled on the 1st August 1932 by the Prince of Wales who later became King Edward VIII.

Please be aware that parking may be limited in the area.

This is an annual event organised by the Royal British Legion Somme Branch in conjunction with the British Embassy in Paris.
