In this talk John Stanyard will examine different aspects of the Salvation Army's involvement in the Great War. They will include it approach to war, how the Salvation Army became involved with military, the Salvation Army’s work with the troops, ambulances and huts. Stories of Salvationist serving in the forces – Three VCs.
 
John’s been a member of the Western Front Association for around 22 years and is a member of the Northamptonshire Branch Committee. He joined the Association following two trips to the Western Front and getting involved in a family search for Great Uncle Fred, who was killed at Hooge in 1916. A special moment was standing in front of Great Uncle Fred’s grave in Menin Road South - the first member of the family ever to do so.
 
John has a wide variety of talks on aspects of both the 1st and 2nd World Wars.
