Aussie Magazine and the Australian Corps in 1918-1919 by Alastair Fraser
16 Sep

Aussie was the magazine of the Australian Corps published in 13 issues between January 1918 and April 1919. The content included the Aussiosities column of humorous stories from members of the Corps, cartoons, reviews of divisional follies shows, and glossaries of slang. The third issue had a circulation of 100,000 copies and the paper provides a unique window into the world of the Australian soldier in France in 1918.

Alistair is very well-known in this branch for his regular and always popular lectures, perhaps it is less known that he has recently retired from Durham University Library. A rare book specialist by profession, he has a degree in history from Newcastle University. He has worked for the Public Record Office and the British Library.

The meeting will take place at our usual venue, The Allotment Social Club,
West Allotments, and will commence at 7.45 pm for an 8.00 pm start.
