Stand to Arms: Ypres 1915 and the Northumberland Fusiliers by Tony Ball
19 Feb

The battle group Ypres 1915 covers four of the 25 battles fought around the Ypres salient. The 1915 battles were relatively small but no less deadly for that. The battle group is famous as the first in which the Germans successfully deployed battle gas but this fact overshadows the bitter fighting which followed. There was no humanity on the field of battle. The first part of the talk looks at the structure and features of the battle. The second at the role of the six Northumberland Fusiliers’ battalions on active service. There were two regular and four territorial battalions; all of which served at Ypres 1915. Many lads from mine and Tyne would not see home again.

Tony has been a member of the branch committee and a regular and very popular speaker for many years.

This event will start with our Annual General Meeting.

Entry is by donation of £4.00 and includes a buffet and raffle.
