‘The Birmingham Pals’ by Paul Jacques
21 Mar

Shortly after the start of the war, the idea of encouraging men to join up alongside others from the same locality, workplace or profession gave rise to what became known as the 'Pals' battalions.  Three such battalions of 'Brummies' were raised, in September 1914.  The 1st, 2nd and 3rd 'Birmingham Pals' became the 14th, 15th and 16th (Service) Battalions, Royal Warwickshire Regiment.  Paul takes us from their formation and deployment to France in November, 1915, through the Battle of the Somme and service in Italy, to their return to the Western Front in time to fight in the 1918 German Offensive, and onwards to the Armistice.

Members and Non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
