1917: Russia's Year of Revolutions

Speaker: Gerry White
Fea October Revolution 1

The Russian Revolution that took place in October 1917 was one of the most important events of the 20th century as it led to the creation of the Soviet Union. It also resulted in the Soviet Union and the Central Powers signing the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk on 3 March 1918. Under the terms of this treaty, the Soviet Union withdrew from the Great War. This enabled Germany to transfer hundreds of thousands of veteran troops to the Western Front for the 1918 Spring Offensive.

In this presentation, Gerry White looks at the cause and course of the October Revolution and also the revolution that took place in Russia the previous February. He also examines the parts played by key personnel such as Alexander Kerensky, Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky.

Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts. Admission is free but, if possible, we would appreciate a small donation of €5.00 to help cover branch costs.
